Terms & Conditions

Welcome to The Skin Shed. By booking a consultation, treatment, or purchasing a gift voucher, you agree to the following terms.

About these terms

These terms apply to all consultations, treatments, Signature Programmes and gift vouchers provided by The Skin Shed, run by Dr Sian Mew in Poole, Dorset. By booking with us, you confirm that you have read and agree to them. If anything is unclear, please ask before booking at contact@theskinshed.net.

Consultations

All new clients must have a consultation before any treatment, either a New Patient Consultation (£50), which is deducted from any treatment or skincare purchased within one month, or an Advanced Skin Consultation (£150), which is payable in full at booking and is non-redeemable.

Treatments are only carried out when they are clinically appropriate for you. We may decline or postpone treatment if it is not in your best interests, and we will always explain why.

Deposits and cancellations

Deposits

A £50 deposit is required to secure any treatment or face-to-face consultation, including the face-to-face Advanced Skin Consultation. Your deposit is deducted from the cost of your appointment on the day, and the remaining balance is payable at your appointment.

Online Skin Consultations

Online consultations, including the online Advanced Skin Consultation, are paid in full when you book.

Signature Programmes

Every Signature Programme begins with an Advanced Skin Consultation, booked with a £50 deposit. The balance of the programme is paid when you decide to go ahead after your consultation.

Cancelling or rearranging

We ask for at least 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or move your appointment. With 48 hours’ notice or more, your deposit is carried over to your new appointment, or refunded if you no longer wish to rebook.

Late cancellations and missed appointments

Life doesn’t always go to plan. If you need to cancel with less than 48 hours’ notice, please get in touch as soon as you can, and wherever possible I’ll offer you a new appointment instead.

If rescheduling isn’t possible, or an appointment is missed without notice:

  • for treatments and face-to-face consultations (including the Advanced Skin Consultation), your £50 deposit is forfeited
  • for online consultations, the full fee is forfeited
  • for Signature Programmes, the session is forfeited

Running late

If you arrive more than 15 minutes late, we may need to shorten or rebook your appointment. Please call or text 07740 701949 if you’re running late so I can keep your appointment for you.

Refunds

We’re unable to offer refunds for treatments that have been carried out.

Prices are shown on our website and confirmed at the time of booking. We may update our prices from time to time, but the price confirmed when you book is the price you pay.

If we need to cancel

Occasionally we may need to cancel or move your appointment, for example due to illness. If this happens, we will contact you as early as possible and offer a new appointment or a full refund of any deposit or payment made for that appointment.

Signature Programmes

Signature Programmes are priced as a package for the full course of treatments described. Programmes are personal to you and cannot be transferred to another person.

If a treatment in your programme becomes clinically unsuitable for you, we will discuss alternatives with you or refund the sessions you have not yet received.

Full Body Mole Checks

A mole check is a careful clinical examination of your skin using a dermatoscope. It provides an expert assessment on the day, but no examination can guarantee that every skin cancer will be identified, and new changes can develop afterwards. Please continue to check your skin regularly and seek advice promptly if you notice any change.

If a lesion needs further investigation or removal, we will discuss the options with you. This may include referral to your GP or to an NHS or private specialist. Freezing treatment is charged separately, as shown on our Treatments page.

Your health information and consent

Please give us full and accurate information about your medical history, medications, allergies, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and any recent treatments, and tell us about any changes before each appointment. This is essential for your safety.

We will explain the benefits, risks and alternatives of your treatment and ask for your written consent before we begin. You are always welcome to take time to think before going ahead. Clinical photographs may be taken for your medical record. They will never be used for any other purpose without your separate written permission.

Treatments are only provided to clients aged 18 and over. We may decline treatment if a client appears to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Results and aftercare

Everyone's skin responds differently, so while we will always aim for the best possible outcome, we cannot guarantee specific results. Please follow the aftercare advice you are given, as this affects both your safety and your results.

If you have any concerns after a treatment, please contact us straight away at contact@theskinshed.net. In an emergency, call 999 or attend your nearest A&E.

Payments and refunds

If you are unhappy with any aspect of your treatment, please contact us and we will do our best to put things right, which may include a review appointment.

Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

Gift vouchers

Gift vouchers are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase and can be redeemed against any consultation, treatment or programme at The Skin Shed. Vouchers cannot be exchanged for cash, are non-refundable and cannot be replaced if lost. The person using a voucher will need a consultation before any treatment, and our booking and cancellation terms apply to appointments booked with a voucher.

Complaints

We hope you are always happy with your care, but if you are not, please tell us. Contact us in writing at contact@theskinshed.net and we will acknowledge your complaint promptly and aim to respond in full within 10 working days.

Our responsibility to you

We provide our services with reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for losses that were not foreseeable, or for outcomes caused by information not disclosed to us or by aftercare advice not being followed. Nothing in these terms limits our liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence.

Your privacy

We handle your personal and health information in line with our Privacy Policy.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The version on this page at the time of your booking applies. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
